My second favorite hobby is music, primarily jazz. I've played trombone for quite some time in several bands. The last band I was with regularly was one that I co-founded in St. Louis called Code Blue. That is a seven piece acoustic band that plays various styles, but primarily in the style of Art Blakey, Horace Silver, Charlie Mingus, etc. I left the band when I moved to New Jersey to teach at Stockton College, and now at John Carroll University, but still play with them when I'm in town. Since I've been here, my horn has been pretty silent, but I used to sit in on jam nights at some local places (most commonly on Mondays at House of Swing with a band called ACO). And, I don't know exactly how it happened, but I think I'm also a member of an embryonic band called Afterglow that has yet to perform in public even though we've recorded a CD.
I used to teach a course at Stockton called Jazz Perspectives. It was a lofty-yet-uninformative title. The class was a general synthesis of jazz history and appreciation.
