Phone: (216) 360-9080

Description:
Montefiore is a nonprofit organization that offers a comprehensive system of healthcare services for seniors. Montefiore offers both residential and community programs with the goal of providing a continuum of quality care. Founded in 1882, Montefiore has more than a century of experience in caring for seniors. Programs include long-term nursing care, post-hospital care, a dementia special care unit, home health care, hospice care, wellness clinics, and rehabilitation therapies.

What we do there:
JCU students support some of the many recreational activities that Montefiore offers its residents, including: "Bubbe's Kitchen," a cooking program in which JCU students share stories and memories with Montefiore residents and provide support to residents by helping to cook simple, kosher recipes which all residents can participate in making together, and Bingo Night, where JCU students share stories and memories with residents while assisting with the weekly Bingo game, transporting residents, distributing materials, calling the game, and joining in the fun.

MONTEFIORE PURIM CARNIVAL (SUNDAY, MARCH 20)
Montefiore

SERVICE TYPE: Senior Citizens
PARTNER: Montefiore
ACTUAL SERVICE TIME: 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM

IMPORTANT:
Transportation is NOT provided to this activity. By registering for this activity, you are agreeing to transport yourself to and from service.
This service opportunity approximately 4 miles from JCU's campus; most students are able to drive to this site within 15 minutes (view a map here).

Service participants in this activity will help residents enjoy an on-site carnival for the Jewish Holiday of Purim. This includes transporting residents from their rooms to the carnival (pushing their wheelchairs or escorting them), helping the residents play games, and serving them food (hamantachen cookies and punch). When the carnival is over, students will transport the residents back to their units.

Purim is a fun holiday, so service participants are encouraged to dress up in costumes - keeping in mind that they should be appropriate to an older audience and non-offensive to any groups of people. Costumes are not required.
