Dr. Walsh has been
teaching since 1960, and at John Carroll from 1963-1999.
He taught General Chemistry, all levels of Organic
Chemistry, and parts of Spectroscopic Analysis. He
received the Distinguished Faculty Award in 1976 and
Grauel Faculty Fellowships in 1972 and 1983. In 1973, he
was a research associate at the University of
California, Santa Cruz; in 1984, a visiting professor at
Ohio State University where he was a member of Dr.
Paquette's research group. Dr. Walsh was active in
the American Chemical Society. In the Cleveland
Section, he has served in various capacities, including
Chairman (1969) and Councilor (1979 to date). In the
Central Region, he has organized and chaired symposia
(1976, 1985) and he was general Chairman of the 1989
Central Meeting. On the national level, he has served on
various committees, notably the Council Committee on
Constitution and Bylaws (chair 1986 and 1987) and the
Council Policy Committee (1986-1992). Dr. Walsh retired
in 1999 and he and his wife currently live in
Florida. In recent years, he has become an author,
publishing two books, with a third in progress.
